XPO to hire 1,000 in region
Drive-thru hiring event set for Wednesday
XPO Logistics has a big hiring order it hopes it can fill in the Lehigh Valley.
The third-party logistics provider is looking to hire more than 1,000 people across three Lehigh Valley-area facilities as it enters the peak holiday season. The roles, a mix of permanent, seasonal, full and part time, are some of the 15,000 jobs XPOis hoping to fill across the country by Nov. 15.
The available local jobs are based at 3000 AM Drive in Milford Township, Bucks County, and two buildings in Palmer Township:
1520 and 1611 Van Buren Road.
To help fill jobs at the Milford facility, XPO is hosting a drivethru hiring event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at 3000 AM Drive, about 5 miles west of Quakertown. Those attending must apply online before the event, at jobs.xpo.com.
XPO said hiring managers will extend on-the-spot offers to qualified candidates at the event. Job-seekers must wear a mask and remain in their vehicle, with interviews conducted from the car. Attendees also must sign a COVID-19 acknowledgment waiver and adhere to a temperature screening, the company said.
“It’s gratifying to support the communities where we operate by creating thousands of jobs this year,” said Troy Cooper, president of the Greenwich, Connecticut, company. “Our retail and e-commerce customers are looking forward to a strong holiday season, with continued momentum into 2021. We expect that about 40% of our seasonal hires will move into permanent positions after the holidays.”
Asked about year-round staff at its Lehigh Valley buildings, XPO
said that number can fluctuate depending on customer needs.
XPO said it is offering hiring incentives, including peak pay and overtime for eligible seasonal distribution center workers. According to online job listings, a material handler at the Milford facility starts at $13.50 an hour, plus shift differential pay. Many other positions, including reach truck and forklift operators, list higher starting pay rates.
XPO is just one of many companies gearing up for the holiday rush.
Radial, which handles e-commerce fulfillment for clients, last week announced plans to hire more than 1,000 seasonal workers at its 475,800-square-foot warehouse in Forks Township.
The transportation and warehousing sector is among the Lehigh Valley’s most steady during a pandemic that has accelerated online ordering. As such, material mover is typically the most in-demand job among listings in the area.
