LVHN to resume work on hospital

-

Lehigh Valley Health Network has resumed construction of a hospital outside Scranton that is scheduled to open in summer 2022, the network said Tuesday.

Construction had paused on the project in Dickson City before the coronavirus pandemic.

The project was started by Coordinated Health in January 2019, nearly a year before that health system became part of LHVN. It includes a 100,578-square-foot hospital specializing in orthopedics that will connect to an existing medical office building.

The hospital also will have an 18-bay emergency department, 24 private inpatient beds, seven operating rooms and a helipad for critical care transports, according to an LVHNnews release.

“This will be the first LVHN hospital facility in the Scranton market,” Dr. Brian Nester, LVHN president and CEO, said in the release. He added that the campus will offer spine surgery, joint replacement and hand surgery as well as urology, bariatric and other surgeries.

In addition, LVHN is upgrading the medical office building with pain, rheumatology and podiatry services, and various imaging and telehealth services, the release noted.

The project is expected to bring 266 jobs and more than 25 inpatient providers to the region, as well as up to 16 primary care physicians.

Elizabeth Wise, president of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, was namedpresident of the Dickson City hospital, and Dr. William Cors, chief medical officer at LVH-Pocono, will also serve Dickson City in that capacity.
