Wentz: ‘I’m not perfect. That’s why it’s practice’
Could there be another anonymous source leaking behind-thescenes details of the Philadelphia Eagles to the media?
According to coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz, they don’t know how NFL Network’s Michael Silver could have reported Monday that Wentz has sloppy practice habits and deny that is the case.
Wentz on Wednesday was the latest to respond.
“Are my practices perfect? No, I mean, that’s why it’s practice,” Wentz said. “But as far as sloppy practice habits and those things, for one you guys [in the media] are out there every day [during warmup periods] and then you guys are asked to leave. The media is not even out there, so I don’t know where that’s coming from. But it is what it is. ...
“I’m not perfect, I know ... I’ve got to be better all the time, but I’m always out there working. I know everybody else is, so I haven’t seen any of that from myself or really from anybody. We’re out there busting our tails every day.
“Do mistakes happen? Absolutely, but is that something that I’ve seen or that I’m worried about for myself or anybody else? No, I’m not.”
Pederson on Monday also bristled at the suggestion Wentz had picked up poor practice habits.
“You guys are only out there for a short period of time, so I don’t know where the information is coming from,” he said. “Practice is where we perfect our craft, and we do the things with all of our players to detail their work, whether it be fundamentals in the individual periods [or] me sometimes stopping practice and repeating a play because we’ve made a mistake.
“So I don’t understand where that’s coming from, and we’re just going to continue to coach and make sure we hold every
body accountable.”
According to Silver in another report, “the offense lacks rhythm or cohesion, seems to be in a rut, and I think if it continues, all options are on the table. There’s a feeling that Pederson may be listening to too many voices. There are a lot of offensive assistants on that staff, and Pederson is amenable to their suggestions.”
At any rate, Pederson still stands behind Wentz as the quarterback who will lead the Eagles out of their undisputed rut.
