EPC selects slate of all-stars
The Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton County divisions all got their own batch of all-stars, complete with an offensive and defensive MVP, including Nazareth’s Matt Bugbee.
It was a very different year for Eastern Pennsylvania Conference football, with the schedules aligned mostly along county boundaries.
The same went for the EPC all-star teams, as the Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton County divisions all got their own batch of all-stars, complete with an offensive and defensive MVP.
In the Lehigh Division, the MVPs were Emmaus senior running back Brandon Camire and Central Catholic junior defensive tackle Lavon Johnson.
Camire ran for 556 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He also had six catches for 212 yards and three more scores. He also had an 88-yard kickoff return for a TD, giving him a league-leading 15 touchdowns.
Thanks in part to Camire, the Green Hornets went 5-1 and went undefeated in the EPC Lehigh Division.
Johnson had 59 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in helping CCHSgo6-2 and win the District 11 4A championship.
NORTHAMPTON DIVISION
Nazareth senior Matt Bugbee was known as one of the area’s best kickers before this season.
In 2018, he kicked 41 extra-points and six field goals and in 2019, he added 62 PATs and eight field goals.
Bugbee got in his kicks during the abbreviated 2020 season, making 32 extra-points and four field goals, but his offensive game wasn’t limited to his foot.
He won the quarterback job just before the start of the season and went
on to pass for a league-high 1,482 yards and 10 scores and to run for 229 more and 10 touchdowns.
Bugbee, whowas the EPC’s top scorer with 104 points, was a deserving choice as the EPCNorthampton Division MVP. He was also the first-team quarterback and placekicker after leading Nazareth to a perfect 8-0 record.
Freedom junior defensive end Braelin
Moore had 21 tackles, including 4.5 sacks, and he recovered three fumbles in helping the Patriots go 5-2 and reach the district final. Hewasnamed the division’s top defensive player.
While 6A finalists Nazareth and Freedombothearnedsevenfirst-teamall-star selections, Easton actually hadmore, with nine. The Red Rovers had five first-team choices on defense. Marcus Williams earned first-team slots at cornerback andspecial teams, and Kyle Evanchowas recognized at receiver and safety.
MONROE DIVISION
East Stroudsburg South had a senior-oriented, talented team that was expected to do well this season.
The Cavaliers didn’t disappoint, winning their four games by a combined margin of 248-7.
It is no surprise they also dominated the balloting in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Monroe Division all-star voting.
East Stroudsburg South had 13 firstteam selections and 19 slots overall capped by Villanova-bound wide receiver Christian Sapp being voted the division’s offensive MVP. Sapp was a first-team receiver, safety and special teams performer.
Stroudsburg’s do-everything-senior, Jace Tutty, was selected as the defensive MVP and selected first-team running back and outside linebacker.
