Northampton County to help seniors get vaccine

- Tom Shortell

With COVID-19 vaccinations proving hard to come by for some senior citizens, Northampton County is starting a program to help those 65 and older schedule an appointment for the shot.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, the county’s Area Agency on Aging will help seniors with limited internet access book appointments for a vaccine at a clinic at Wind Creek Event Center, 77 Wind Creek Blvd. in Bethlehem. The program will be available to residents of Northampton County and Bethlehem.

Seniors can reach the Area Agency on Aging hotline by calling 610-865-7092. The hotline will run every Friday morning through at least March 26, county spokesperson Becky Bartlett said. The county will evaluate how the program is performing after that before committing to more dates.

“We understand the frustration of some of our older folks who don’t have the access or the computer skills to make appointments online,” county Executive Lamont McClure said in a news release. “Area Agency on Aging is making this service available so every Northampton County senior who wants a vaccine is able to get an appointment.”

The county previously partnered with LANTA to offer residents 65 and older a free shuttle ride from their homes to their vaccinations and back. Seniors who want to use that program can contact 1-888-253-8333 from 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Anyone who would like to learn more about the vaccination clinic can call the Bethlehem Health Bureau at 610-865-7083.
