Easton coaching legend Powell recovering after cardiac issue
Former Easton wrestling coach Steve Powell suffered a cardiac episode during a recent practice and was taken to an area hospital.
Current Easton head coach Jody Karam reportedly performed life-saving measures on Powell, who is an assistant.
Karam posted this tweet at 8 a.m. on Friday: “Just got off the phone Coach Powell and he asked me to tell everybody he is doing better and he thanks everybody for the prayers and wellwishes. He and his wife Bobbi Jo are amazing people!!!”
Karam also put this message on his Facebook page: “My phone has been nonstop with
inquiries about Coach Powell — he is a legendary contributor to the youth of the Lehigh Valley. I posted this update on my Twitter account after speaking with Mr. Powell this morning. He gave me
permission to update everybody. Prayers continue for him and his amazing wife Bobbi Jo Powell!!!

Powell coached 19 PIAA and 74 District 11 champions during his 32-year career as the Red Rovers coach in which he never missed a match.
He was 534-125-3 and won four PIAA Class 3A team championships, four PIAA duals titles in a row (2001-04) and nine District 11 championships in one of the nation’s toughest regions in the sport.
Powell also helps his wife, Bobbi Jo, coach the Easton cross country program.
