1st wins sends Lee to PGA Championsh­ip

K.H. Lee was more than happy to play through a steady downpour in the final round of the Byron Nelson near Dallas, and didn’t mind waiting out a weather delay of more than two hours Sunday.

The reward was the final spot the PGA Championsh­ip, which starts Thursday.

Lee earned his first PGA Tour victory and the chance to compete on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island in South Carolina, becoming the second consecutiv­e Byron Nelson winner from South Korea by shooting a finalround 6-under 66 to finish at 25 under, three ahead of Sam Burns (71).

Burns struggled to a 71 to finish at 22 under, a shot ahead of 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, Daniel Berger, Patton Kizzire and Scott Stallings. Monday qualifier Dicky Pride, 51, won the Mitsubishi Electric Classic in Duluth, Ga., for his first PGA Tour Champions title, closing with a 5-under 67 for a threestrok­e victory

College football: Eric Schmid threw for three TDs, including a 10-yarder to Ife Adeyi with 16 seconds left, and Sam Houston State earned its first FCS national title, beating top-seeded South Dakota State 23-21 in Frisco, Texas. Jequez Ezzard had two TD catches for No. 2 seed Sam Houston State (10-0).

NBA: Stephen Curry became the oldest scoring champion since Michael Jordan at age 35 in 1998, finishing with 46 points as the host Warriors held off the Grizzlies 113-101 in a regular-season finale that determined the Western Conference play-in tournament’s eighth and ninth spots. The Warriors wrapped up the No. 8 seed, while the Grizzlies finished at No. 9. At 33, Curry and Jordan are the only scoring champs age 33 or older.
