Joseph C. Gatta, 84, of Fountain Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Szabo) Gatta. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Anthony and Beatrice (Berardo) Gatta. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Ursula Catholic Church, Fountain Hill. Joe lovingly served the community of Fountain Hill most of his career as a police officer where he retired and continued his responsibi­lities as the code & zoning enforcemen­t officer into his 70’s. He was a true “Hiller” and truly loved the borough of Fountain Hill. Joe started his career as a Barber, owning his own shop during his early years. He always

taught his family to be true to themselves and follow their hearts but to stay strong in their beliefs and most importantl­y, always make time to laugh. Within Joe’s family he was always known for his quick wit and “Joe Gatta-isms” which continue to make everyone laugh today. He was the very best father, husband, brother, most amazing grandfathe­r and great grandfathe­r. Joe loved with his entire heart and truly enjoyed his time

with his family. Rest easy “Pop the Cop”.

SURVIVORS: He will be lovingly remembered by his son Anthony Gatta of Fountain Hill; daughters Rosemarie

Schoenenbe­rger of Fountain Hill and Theresann Gatta-Harpster and her husband Tom of Kunkletown; brother Peter Gatta and Mary Jane of Fountain Hill; granddaugh­ters Nichole, Ashlee, Alicia and Jessica and his loving 3 great grandchild­ren as well as many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Gatta.

SERVICES: A Funeral Service will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway Fountain Hill, PA 18015 where the family will recieve relatives and friends from 9 A.M. until time of the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifu­neralhome.com.
