Lightning give Cooper new deal
The Lightning signed Jon Cooper to a three-year extension through the 202425 season, rewarding their coach after the team won consecutive Stanley Cup titles.
The 54-year-old Cooper is the longest tenured coach in the NHL. He has a 383-197-53 record in just over eight seasons.
The Seattle Kraken are expected to be without Fs Calle Jarnkrok , Jared McCann, Joonas Donskoi and Marcus Johansson and D Jamie Oleksiak for Tuesday night’s season opener against the Golden Knights in Las Vegas due to COVID-19 protocols.
College football: LSU WR Kayshon Boutte will miss the rest of the season after suffering a leg injury during Saturday’s loss to Kentucky. Boutte has nine TDs this season, tied for the most in the FBS.
Mixed martial arts: UFC great Chuck Liddell was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence. Liddell, 51, said on Instagram that he was the victim of “the incident,” but volunteered to go in his wife’s place.
NFL: Rookie QB Trey Lance suffered a left knee sprain during the 49ers’ loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. Lance isn’t expected to miss much time. The 49ers have the week off . ... Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is expected to play against the Eagles on Thursday night despite suffering a thumb injury on his right throwing hand during Sunday’s win Dolphins. Brady threw for 411 yards and five TDs in the game . ... Bengals QB Joe Burrow is in “good shape” following a precautionary hospital visit for a throat contusion after Sunday’s OT loss to the Packers, coach Zac Taylor said. Burrow is expected to play against the Lions this weekend . ... Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster will undergo surgery later this week for a dislocated shoulder and is expected to sideline him about four months, ESPN reported. Smith-Schuster suffered the injury on a jet sweep in the Sunday’s win over the Broncos.
