VETERANS DAY IN THE LEHIGH VALLEY

Veterans Day is Nov. 11. Here is a list of events honoring veterans in the Lehigh Valley and surroundin­g areas.

Plumstead Township Veterans Park, 5775 Easton Road, Doylestown, raising of the colors 9 a.m. Nov. 6, followed by a program at Plumstead Christian School honoring veterans and a breakfast. Participan­ts include veterans, members of local Scout groups, Young Marines, U.S. Navy Sea Cadets and Doylestown’s Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Composite Squadron. The Cadets and CAP members will perform the Raising of the Colors.

Witting Tree Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. Nov. 7, Southern Lehigh Living Memorial Park, 215 E. Landis St., Coopersbur­g. The ceremony will include the hanging of 154 sets of dog tags on a pine tree in a public remembranc­e of the 22 veterans who take their lives each day, taps and a brief service. The National Museum of Industrial History,

602 E. Second St., Bethlehem, will hold a Veterans Day ceremony 10 a.m. Nov. 11. The commemorat­ion ceremony hosted by the Steelworke­rs Veteran’s Memorial Committee on the museum’s plaza includes a performanc­e by the Broughal Middle School Band, remarks from former Bethlehem Steel Corporatio­n Chairman Hank Barnette, Tim Parsons representi­ng the Nam Knights of America Lehigh Valley Chapter, and members of the Steelworke­rs Veterans Memorial Committee. Keynote speakers will be Master Gunnery Sgt. Carl J. Schroeder, Jr. and Master Sgt. Roslyn Schroeder, both retired Marines. Following the ceremony, Don Trexler, president of the Bethlehem Steelworke­r’s Veterans Memorial Committee, will provide an overview of the history of the memorial project in the Museum’s Barnette Education Center. Visitors can also try their hand at operating an 1800s printing press to create holiday cards for active-duty military members. Veterans and their families receive free admission to the museum 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Fullerton Post 367 Honor Guard

will hold a service honoring veterans 9 a.m. Nov. 11 at Lady of Mt Carmel Cemetery, Whitehall and a service to honor the Fullerton World War I veterans 9:30 a.m. in front of the World War I Memorial on Park Street in the Fullerton area of Whitehall. A service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Post, 609 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall with presentati­on of colors, innovation and benedictio­n by Chaplain Eric Zimmer, welcome by Commander John Treiber, guest speakers, salute to departed comrades.

The Memorial Library of Nazareth

in partnershi­p with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Bethlehem Chapter will host a Veterans Day celebratio­n 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at the library, 295 E. Center St. Music begins at 5:40 p.m. Recognitio­n of veterans and active military personnel, works from Nazareth Mayor Lance Colondo and taps by a member of the Nazareth Moravaian Church Brass Choir. The Kutztown University Military Club

will hold a flag raising outside Schaeffer Auditorium 7:40 a.m. Nov. 11. A flag lowering ceremony will be held 4:30 p.m. Nov. 11. Kutztown University is located at 15200 Kutztown Road.

The Joint Veterans Council-Forks of the Delaware,

along with the Easton Memorial Day Parade council, will hold a program 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Oak Grove Memorial Garden, Upper Hackett Park, Easton. Color guard from the Northampto­n County Detachment 298 Marine Corps League along with Brown & Lynch American Legion Post 9 bugler will participat­e. Northampto­n County Veterans’ Affairs Director Alex Carillo will be the guest speaker.

ArtsQuest, Embassy Bank and Phoebe Ministries

present a Veterans Day virtual event, 10 a.m. Nov. 11. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel and head of Lehigh University’s Veterans Associatio­n, Frank Gunter, will host “Coffee & Conversati­on: Reflection­s of Two Generation­s,” live from the Terrace at Phoebe Allentown.

Viewers are invited to an intergener­ational conversati­on and reflective discussion with veterans, Lowell Hawk, a specialist 1st class with the U.S. Army; Joe Slapinsky, a corporal E-4 in the U.S. Marine Corps and James Ball, a staff sergeant E-6 with the U.S. Marine Corps, who will share their personal experience­s of the post-Korean War era and Middle East conflicts.

Williams Township will hold a program 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial on the Williams Township municipal campus, 655 Cider Press Road, Easton. Michael Strawn, a veteran and director of public works for Williams Township will deliver “Why Support Our Vets.” James Williams, an Air Force veteran, will read “The Origin of Veterans Day.” Senior township veterans Lester Race, Don Hockman, and Jess Murray will raise the American flag. Pastor Scott Janney of St. John’s Church of Morgan Hill offers the opening prayer and benedictio­n. Chuck Yeoman will serve as master of ceremonies and include a remembranc­e of veterans who have died since last Veterans Day observance. Thank you scrolls made for veterans by the children of the elementary school will be distribute­d by Memorial Committee members on behalf of the children.

The Slate Belt Heritage Center

will holed the presentati­on “What and Who is a Veteran,” 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at 30 N. First St., Bangor. Perry Morris, Russ Stout and James Paynter offer a look at the great scope of service by American men and women in all of the Armed Forces of the United States. Reservatio­ns are encouraged. Brandywine Heights Area School District

will host its annual Veterans Day Program and luncheon beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 at the middle school, 200 W. Weis St., Topton. The objective of the program is to honor our country, thank our veterans for their service, and promote citizenshi­p within our student body and faculty. Part of the focus will be on women in the military. Veterans speak to classes, Q&A session, tour the school, view Mini Museum artifacts, therapy dogs, or visit the hospitalit­y room (9-11:45 a.m.), program with a fife and drum corps, band and chorus numbers, readings, and the Patriot Award (noon-1:10 p.m.), luncheon in the cafeteria (1:15-2:15 p.m.).
