Palmerton baseball gets walk-off win; Saucon Valley keeps rolling

Dieruff gets another no-hitter but loses

An error on a ball hit by Connor Beahm plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and Beahm also worked seven solid innings on the mound as Palmerton edged Catasauqua 3-2 Monday in a Colonial League baseball game.

Beahm walked one and struck out six for the Blue Bombers (11-6). Palmerton also got RBIs from Chase Reph and Jacob Grammes, both in the first inning.

Catty, which lost for the fourth straight time and fell to 5-11 overall, fought back to tie it with single runs in the fifth and seventh. Bryce Emery and Matt Fotta knocked in runs and McKay Lewis doubled and scored.

Palmerton had only three hits but benefitted from five walks, three errors and a hit batter.

Colonial League baseball

Saucon Valley 13, Notre Dame-Green Pond 1: Jake Klotz hit a home run and knocked in two runs and Jake Albert collected four RBIs as the Panthers won their 12th straight and improved to 13-2 overall. Rocky Viscito allowed three hits in the five-inning game, walked five, and struck out seven.

Northweste­rn Lehigh 7, Pen Argyl 6: In an extra-inning classic, Tanner Romig’s sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th proved to be the game-winning RBI as the Tigers won their fifth straight, improved to 10-7, and clinched a District 11 tournament berth.

Ben Boyer, who went 4-for-6, started the 12th with a double and moved to third on Chase Moyer’s single. Robert Croneberge­r walked to load the bases before Romig plated courtesy runner Wes George.

Boyer, who worked 6⅔ innings of scoreless relief with 10 strikeouts, worked a perfect bottom of the 12th to finish it off.

Brad Rissmiller doubled and knocked in two runs for the Green Knights (3-13).

Southern Lehigh 21, Moravian Academy 0: Austin Bonde tossed a three-inning no-hitter and Christian Pickell went 3-for-3, including a double, with three RBIs and Matt Tankred knocked in two runs as the Spartans improved to 14-2.

Salisbury8,NorthernLe­high2: Matt Nunez had three hits and drove in three runs and Tommy Lovelidge tossed a three-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts as the Falcons improved to 8-7. Jake Bucchin added three hits and scored three times for Salisbury.

Nonleague baseball

Pleasant Valley 1, Dieruff 0: Dieruff got a second straight no-hitter, but this one didn’t produce a win. Jonathan Brito no-hitted the Bears, getting six strikeouts and walking three. But the Huskies were burned by three errors. The lone run crossed in the sixth when James Syracuse walked, reached third on an error and scored on a passed ball.

In other recent games, Voorhees, New Jersey, beat Easton 4-2 in a game played at Doubleday Field in Cooperstow­n, New York. Notre Dame-East Stroudsbur­g beat Wilson Area 9-6 and Whitehall beat Allen 14-4.

Colonial League softball

Palisades 6, Bangor 4: Freshman Karlye Teman tossed a five-hitter with 14 strikeouts and had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs as the Pirates won their fourth straight and improved to 7-6 overall. Aubrey Boushell, Ailish Kelleher, Ashley Amato, and Bri Hunter knocked in runs for Palisades. Kristina Langdon had two hits, including a home run, scored two runs,k and drove in two runs.

EPC softball

Whitehall 13, Allen 3: Freshman Bella Muth followed up her game-winning grand slam on Saturday night by collecting three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs as the Zephyrs improved to 13-3. Aubrey Steiner went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. Nya Brown went 4-for-4 and collected five RBIs. Lennon Dreisbach didn’t allow an earned run and just five hits and struck out three in the five-inning win.

In other softball games on Monday, Pleasant Valley blanked Dieruff 15-0, Pen Argyl edged Northweste­rn Lehigh 7-6 and Northern Lehigh edged Salisbury 7-6.
