The Morning Call

5 prime-time games, Wentz and Pederson return to Philly

- By Jeremy Klump

On Thursday the NFL announced the 2022 schedule. After an impressive offseason, one where General Manager Howie Roseman showcased his skills, the Eagles have a lot of hype heading into the season.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts will have all the pressure on him, but the Eagles have built a playoff roster while also loading up on future draft picks. The Eagles’ biggest move of the offseason was trading for star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Philly also traded up for

Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis in the 2022 NFL Draft.

According to the NFL’s Twitter account, which ranked every team’s strength of schedule, the Eagles have the third weakest schedule in the NFL. Their 2022 opponents have a win percentage of .464.

Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders will make their visit to Philadelphia on Monday Night Football in Week 10. Wentz will be making his first return to Philly since being dealt to the Indianapolis Colts before the 2021 season. After failing to lead the Colts to the playoffs, Indy shipped

Wentz to Washington, where he will take on the Eagles twice a year.

In Wentz’s first return to Philly, I am sure Eagles fans will greet one of the most hated athletes in Philadelphia history with boo-birds. Wentz was part of the 2017 Super Bowl team and did help secure the No. 1 seed and home field advantage, but the end of his time as an Eagles was a disaster.

On a lighter note, former Nazareth Area High School and Penn State University star wide receiver Jahan Dotson will be back in Pennsylvania to play a game. Dotson was drafted No. 16 overall by the Commanders, and the Philly crowd will likely be packed with Lehigh Valley fans cheering him on.

Speaking of the 2017 Super Bowl, the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning head coach Doug Pederson and his Jacksonville Jaguars will make the trip to Philly in Week 4. Pederson will not get the boo-birds like Wentz, and I am sure he will get a great ovation from the fans.

In Week 12 on Sunday Night Football, back-to-back NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. Rodgers will

be without his elite, No. 1 wide receiver Davante Adams. This offseason, the Packers decided to trade Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, and it is safe to say that Eagles’ cornerback Darius Slay is not complaining about that move.

For the fans that hate the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas will be in town in Week 6, and Philly will travel to Dallas in Week 16.

The Battle of Pennsylvania will take place in Week 8, a week after Philly’s Week 7 Bye Week. The Eagles will welcome Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers to town without Ben Roethlisberger.

With a rebuilt roster and an easy strength of schedule, hopefully, the Eagles will be a playoff team in 2022.
