The Morning Call

Who are you, America?

-

When Trump got off the bus saying

“you can grab them by the p—-y,” I thought women would turn against him. When he put children in cages (yes, cages), what parent wouldn’t be angry? When he said COVID was a hoax, I thought there’s no way people would stand by and watch family members die because Trump couldn’t believe Dr. Fauci knew more about a deadly virus — drink bleach!! “There are good people on both sides,” he said as a menacing mob of neo-Nazis chanted “Jews will not replace us.” Friends said, don’t worry, Nazis won’t come to power, this is America!!! Then came January 6. Proud Boys and other anti-government groups stormed the Capitol. Trump and the Republican Party claimed it was normal tourists visiting their seat of government. Yeah sure, I always climb through windows when I visit City Hall. And most recently, a MAGA nut job attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer. Is America shocked? Are Republicans disavowing this vile action? Nope, in fact, it has become fodder for jokes.

Who are you, America? Where is the beacon of democracy, the shining city on the hill, the home of the proud and the brave? It’s time to look in the mirror.
