Tremba, Spang guide Parkland to championship game

- By Keith Groller

Few No. 6 seeds ever get to the finals of a district tournament, but the Parkland football team is not a normal No. 6.

Injuries had a lot to do with the Trojans beginning the season 2-3.

But Parkland is healthy now and they have eliminated both the EPC South and EPC North champions with the latest victim being previously unbeaten Northampton.

The Trojans knocked off the Konkrete Kids 31-13 Thursday night at Al Erdosy Stadium to advance to next week’s District 11 6A title game against No. 4 seed Freedom.

It will be Parkland’s first appearance in the district championship game since losing an overtime thriller to Nazareth in 2019.

Junior Trey Tremba ran for 121 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns on Thursday and quarterback Luke Spang, another junior, threw for 136 yards and two scores as the Trojans won for the sixth time in seven games.

Northampton took advantage of a Parkland turnover to score on an AJ Slivka run before halftime to get within 10-7, but Parkland scored the first 21 points in the second half getting two TD passes from Spang, one each to Nakhi Bullock and another to Tremba and

Tremba capped Parkland’s scoring with a TD run. Slivka scored the K-Kids’ final points in the fourth period.

Parkland outgained Northampton 276-243 on the ground.

It marked the second straight year Northampton fell in the district semifinals after winning its first 11 games. The K-Kids are scheduled to host Catasauqua on Thanksgiving morning.
