Rare whiskeys to be offered in limited-release lottery
Pa. Liquor Control Board to include 1,590 bottles
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board said Tuesday that it will hold lotteries for the right to buy limited-release whiskeys.
In a news release, the PLCB said 1,590 bottles of rare whiskeys, including more than 1,400 bottles of Van Winkle products, will be part of the lotteries. Pennsylvania residents and licensees will have until 5 p.m. Friday to register by visiting the Limited-Release Lottery webpage at FWGS. com.
Van Winkle is a Kentucky bourbon, with batches aged for 10-23 years, and given a 99 out of 100 rating by Wine Enthusiast magazine and the World Spirits Championship.
Separate drawings will be conducted for each of the whiskeys, and lottery participants may opt in to one, several or all drawings. The right to purchase is limited to one bottle per participant for the lottery. If a participant wins the right to purchase a bottle in a drawing, they will be removed from subsequent drawings.
The batches available through the auction are:
Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon 23-year-old 95 Proof, $399.99 each — 27 bottles for individual consumers, nine bottles for licensees.
Van Winkle Family Reserve Straight Rye Whiskey 13-year-old, $159.99 each — 52 bottles for individual consumers, 17 bottles for licensees.
Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon 20-year-old 90 Proof, $249.99 each — 81 bottles for individual consumers, 27 bottles for licensees.
Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon 15-year-old 107 Proof, $149.99 each — 86 bottles for individual consumers, 28 bottles for licensees.
Old Rip Van Winkle Handmade Straight
Bourbon 10-year-old 107 Proof, $89.99 each — 237 bottles for individual consumers, 78 bottles for licensees.
Van Winkle Special Reserve Straight Bourbon 12-year-old 90 Proof, $99.99 each — 599 bottles for individual consumers, 199 bottles for licensees.
There will also be a separate lottery for Old Forester Birthday Straight Bourbon 2022 at $159.99 each. Ninety bottles will be for individual consumers and 60 bottles will be for licensees.
The winners are required to select a store for pickup of their purchase. Those interested in entering one or more lotteries or drawings must have an active account with FWGS.com with billing information on file.
The lottery is open to Pennsylvania residents 21 and older, and photo ID is required at the time of pickup.
As is always the case with alcohol sales in Pennsylvania, resale of any of the bottles sold through the auction is illegal without the proper licensing for alcohol sales.
