2007: Lafayette rallies for a 21-17 win over Lehigh at Goodman Stadium, completing a four-year sweep by the Leopard seniors over their archrivals. It’s the first time since 1950 a Lafayette class graduates without suffering a loss to the Mountain Hawks.
2007: Palisades adds its first-ever District 11 Class 2A football title to its firstever league championship as Adam Gretzinger scores two fourth-quarter TDs to lift the Pirates to a 14-0 victory over Colonial League co-champ Palmerton. Palisades (10-2) also sets school records for wins in season.
2007: Annie Giglio and Rachel Jennings score to erase an early 1-0 deficit and Emmaus beats Penn Manor 2-1 to capture its ninth PIAA Class 3A field hockey championship. The Green Hornets also claim the mythical national championship, their second in three years.
1998: Southern Lehigh gets a goal from Stacey Tomes to edge Lake-Lehman, 2-1, and advance to the PIAA Class 2A field hockey championship game.
1978: Glenn Moyer scores the lone goal to give Fleetwood a 1-0 win over Freedom and a berth in the PIAA soccer championship. A day later the Tigers (29-1) win their first state title with a 4-0 win over Upper St. Clair while the Patriots drop a 2-1 decision to West Snyder in the consolation game.
1977: The final 9:35 of the Central Catholic-Parkland football game at Allentown School District Stadium, which had been suspended Sept. 19 by lightning and rain, is completed in … lightning and rain. A total of 22
fans are in the stands to watch the Trojans complete a 13-7 victory.
