2003: Ty Stofflet of Coplay becomes the first player from the Lehigh Valley to be elected into the Amateur Softball Associatio­n Hall of Fame when the 62-year-old headlines the Hall’s seven-member class of 2004.

1988: Dave Smith ties the game with a 22-yard field goal with 4:16 to play in the fourth quarter, then kicks a 27-yard field goal in overtime to lift unbeaten and unheralded Pocono Mountain to a stunning 20-17 victory over Easton and the District 11

1978: East Stroudsbur­g

State College sophomore

Barry Kennedy, a Catasauqua graduate, passes for four touchdowns and runs for another to lead the Warriors (10-1) to a 49-4 rout of

Clarion for the school’s fourth Pennsylvan­ia Athletic Conference football title.

1977: Dieruff (9-1) claims at least a share of the East Penn Conference title and caps its best season in school history by beating Liberty 20-6 in a make-up game necessitat­ed by an early-season teachers strike in Bethlehem School District. Tony Jordan runs for 209 yards and three TDs for the Huskies, who ultimately share the title with Phillipsbu­rg after the Stateliner­s’ 7-6 Thanksgivi­ng Day victory over Easton.

1977: Liberty reaches the

PIAA boys soccer final for the second time in three years with a 2-0 victory over Mount Lebanon. The Hurricanes, the 1975 champion, meet ELCO in the title game.
