The Morning Call

Six left to pad stats

- By Keith Groller

The high school football season began with the first day of heat acclimatization practice on Aug. 8.

The first scrimmage was on Aug. 20.

The first games were played on Aug. 26.

A dozen weekends of games are in the books and of the 18 teams in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference only six are still practicing and preparing for games.

For Easton, that preparation is for the big game on Thanksgiving morning on College Hill in Easton where the Red Rovers will play Phillipsburg for the 115th time.

For Northampton, coming off its first loss of the season after 11 wins, it’s the traditional Turkey Day meeting with Catasauqua. This one, at Al Erdosy Stadium in Northampton, is meeting No. 99.

For Allentown Central Catholic and Whitehall, it is PIAA playoff time. The Zephyrs will host Delaware Valley from District 2 in a 5A first-rounder and the Vikings will travel to Williamsport to take on unbeaten District 4 champ Jersey Shore.

And, Freedom and Parkland are headed for Easton’s Cottingham Stadium for the District 11 6A title game.

So, the players on those six teams have a chance to add to their numbers, which in some cases are quite impressive.

The EPC has had six 1,000-yard rushers; 10 passers who have gone over 1,000 yards and one that went over 2,000; one 1,000-yard receiver and six 100-point scorers.

Here’s a look at the EPC stat leaderboard:
