Driver’s license a privilege, not a right
Who has had enough of drivers doing 90 mph on our area highways, running red lights, tailgating, chicken racing (which I witnessed on Route 22 in Easton this morning), etc.? Something must be done.
I know the police have their hands full fighting crime. First of all, we need to make it harder and more expensive to get a driver’s license. In my native country of Sweden, it costs about $300 to get a license and you need to learn to drive in all kinds of conditions and on all types of roads, including roundabouts (something we also need here). A speeding ticket needs to be more expensive and, I hate to say this, but it needs to be made easier to lose a driver’s license.
The kids driving on our roads today need to understand that driving is not a right and they do not own their driver’s licenses.
It can be suspended or, if the offense is serious enough, permanently revoked. It’s time to get serious about this and to save lives on our roads.
