Sheetz drops gas price for holiday

- Evan Jones

For one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, Sheetz said Monday it will reduce the price of its unleaded 88 gasoline to $1.99 per gallon through Nov. 28.

The Altoona convenience store chain has six locations in the Lehigh Valley, four of which offer that type of gasoline: two in Palmer Township, along with Upper Macungie Township and Weisenberg Township.

“Sheetz is a family owned and operated company and at the heart of everything we do is giving back to our customers and the communities we reside in,” Travis Sheetz, the company president and CEO, said in a statement. “We hope this price reduction provides much-needed relief at the pump for our customers as they travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.”

It’s not the first time Sheetz has run such a promotion. For the Fourth of July weekend, Sheetz offered unleaded 88 gasoline for $3.99 per gallon.

Sheetz said unleaded 88 is for use in vehicles for model years 2001 or newer as well as light-duty trucks, sport utility vehicles and flexible-fuel vehicles.

The discount comes as gas prices in the Lehigh Valley and beyond have slowly dropped from their recent high average of $4.11 per gallon Nov. 11, according to GasBuddy.

GasBuddy says the average price for regular gas in the Lehigh Valley on Monday was $3.95 per gallon, 7 cents below the state average. The national average was at $3.64.

The Lehigh Valley’s average price is down $1.12 per gallon since a high of $5.07 on June 12, according to GasBuddy data.

According to GasBuddy, the lowest price in the Lehigh Valley on Monday was $3.31 per gallon at a station in Bethlehem Township.
