The Morning Call

49ers riding high after latest victory

-

The playmaker-filled offense lived up to the billing, the defense looked dominant and the 49ers delivered a message that they should be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the NFC. The 49ers went to Mexico City and put together their most complete performance of the season, with Jimmy Garoppolo, above, throwing four touchdown passes in a 38-10 victory over the Cardinals on Monday night for their third straight win. “I feel like we are playing better football each week and that is the goal,” coach Kyle Shanahan said. “You want to get better as the season goes. I feel like we are doing that right now.” The 49ers (6-4) have bounced back from a humbling loss to the Chiefs with victories over the Rams, Chargers and Cardinals to move into a tie for first with the Seahawks in the NFC West. The latest win also helped Shanahan improve to 49-48 in his coaching career, including the playoffs, giving him a winning record for the first time since taking over the 49ers in 2017. “We are definitely ready to go on a run,” tight end George Kittle said.
