LEHIGH VALLEY FLASHBACK
A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from Nov. 28.
2009: Two days after beating Phillipsburg in the annual Thanksgiving Day game, Easton gets three touchdown passes from Justin Pacchioli and stops Parkland four times on fourth down in a
21-15 win in the District 11 Class 4A football championship. It is Easton’s third win in eight days, and the
Red Rovers advance to the PIAA playoffs.
1974: Northampton and Slatington share the final Lehigh Valley League football title after Thanksgiving
Day wins over Catasauqua and Palmerton, respectively. Don
Arndt scores two touchdowns in Northampton’s 24-6 victory over the Rough Riders while Bob Edwards’ second-quarter 24-yard interception return erases an early 6-0 deficit and sparks the Bulldogs to a 14-6 win over the
Blue Bombers. The following year Slatington, Palmerton, Lehighton and Stroudsburg begin play in the newly created Centennial League while Catasauqua jumps to the Colonial League. Emmaus, Whitehall and Northampton join the East Penn Conference, although they aren’t eligible for the football title until 1976.
