Woman dead after crash on Route 873 in Lehigh County

A woman died after a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 873 in Washington Township, Lehigh County.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said his staff suspects the 71-year-old Slatington woman, who was driving, may have died from a medical incident that caused the crash.

She was taken from the crash to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she later died.

Buglio did not release the woman’s name pending the notification of her next of kin.

The coroner’s office and police are investigating.

Buglio could not say if anyone else was hurt in the crash, which involved two cars.

According to state police spokesperson Trooper Nathan Branosky, traffic was detoured at Shady Nook and Hill roads for around two hours.

Regular traffic resumed about 3 p.m.
