2001:

Danny Hinds scores 23 points and Central Catholic advances to the PIAA Class 3A championsh­ip game for the first time in 12 years with a 66-48 rout of Susquehann­a Township in the Eastern final.

1993:

Led by 112-pound champ Mike Tomsic, Northampto­n wins the PIAA Class 3A team wrestling title by a 20-point margin over Harriton (68-48½ ) to cap a dream season by the Konkrete Kids. Northampto­n was 24-0 during the dual-meet season, winning three matches in the inaugural Elite Duals and the Virginia Duals before capturing East Penn Conference and District 11 team duals titles. The K-Kids also won the Christmas City Tournament and team titles in both the District 11 individual and regional tournament­s.

1991:

Michelle Marciniak scores a career-high 42 points, becoming the third girl in state history to top the 3,000-point mark for her career, to lead Central Catholic to a 75-53 win over West Hazleton and a berth in the PIAA Class 3A championsh­ip game.

1986:

Panther Valley’s 25-game boys basketball winning streak comes to an end, as do the Panthers’ dreams of a state title, in a 46-44 loss to Wilkes-Barre GAR in the PIAA Class 2A Eastern final.

1976:

Saucon Valley leads a District 11 gold rush by becoming the first school since Lock Haven in 1961 to crown three champions — Jim Zenz (105), Rich Rodriguez (145) and Jerry Rodriguez (167). Four other district wrestlers win titles: Easton’s Bobby Weaver at 98, Liberty’s Brian Statum at 155 (both of whom win their second straight), Bethlehem Catholic’s Mike Brown at 185, and Dieruff heavyweigh­t George Atiyeh. The Panther trio helps Saucon Valley edge Liberty for the team title.

1976:

Dieruff and Emmaus set up a final showdown in the PIAA Class 3A girls basketball Eastern final. Behind Debbie Christman’s 24 points and 16 rebounds, the Hornets win their 27th straight game by easing past Ridley 63-52. The Huskies get 16 points and 16 rebounds from Patti Sikorski and belt Pennsbury, 55-30.

1973:

Kathy Straccia scores eight straight points and adds an assist in a 14-0 run and Central Catholic, which trails by eight points with 6:54 to play, roars back to beat Plymouth-Whitemarsh 42-36 to reach the PIAA girls basketball Eastern finals. Straccia scores 18 points overall for the Vikettes.

1971:

District 11 places a record seven wrestlers in the finals of the PIAA tournament but settle for only two champions — Saucon Valley’s Don Rohn, who become the first district wrestler to repeat as champion when he stops Mt. Lebanon’s Art Hauser 9-3 in the 120-pound finals; and Easton’s Ray Creazzo, who beats unbeaten and defending state champion Micky Keeney of Greensburg Salem 9-4 at 95 pounds.

1971: Joe Teprovich scores 22 points and Marian Catholic outscores Pittsburgh St. Basil 37-22 over the final two quarters in a 67-48 win that gives the Colts (25-4) their first PCIAA Class B state championsh­ip.

1963:

Catasauqua junior Larry Miller, who averaged 38 points and 24 rebounds a game, is the leading vote-getter on the UPI All-State basketball team. Six days later the Rough Rider standout is the top vote-getter on the AP all-state squad.
