ATHLETES OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
The Morning Call sports staff will nominate three male and three female athletes each week from area schools based on their performance from the previous week. You are invited to vote for one male and one female athlete. Winners will be announced in Friday’s Morning Call Sports section. BOYS Joey Gerbasio, Parkland boys basketball
Had nine points, four rebounds and three assists in PIAA 6A win over Garnet Valley. Had a team-high 15 points, making three 3-pointers, in loss to Roman Catholic in the state quarterfinals.
J.T. Heinze, Central Catholic swimming
Finished off his high school career with a silver medal in diving (234.55 points) at PIAA 2A championships.
Jake Jones, Saucon Valley wrestling
Selected for Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic, which pits state’s top seniors against nation’s best. He is the first District 11 wrestler and 15th in the state to record at least 100 pins in his career.
GIRLS
Madison Cunard, Easton swimming
Finished sixth in diving (218.55) at PIAA 3A championships, earning a medal in her first and only state appearance.
Anna Petke, Bethlehem Catholic swimming
Posted a score of 242.50 points to capture the diving title at PIAA 2A championships.
Madi Szoke, Central Catholic basketball
Scored 14 points in loss to Lansdale Catholic in PIAA tournament; was major contributor to team’s run that included EPC and District 11 championships.
