Parkland’s Tremba leads the way to the end zone and in rushing
Consider them among the unsung heroes of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference football.
They are the statisticians who dutifully compile the stats each week and supply them to their head coach or, sometimes, directly to the media.
At the collegiate and NFL level, there are stat crews who crunch the numbers every week.
But at the high school level, it’s generally one person who does it.
Technology has made it easier for the high school stat men and women, but many choose to stay old-school and do their numbers with pencil or pen and paper.
So, here’s a salute to people like Bob and Pat Whirl at Freedom, Alex Specht at Liberty, Cathy Piston at Dieruff, Connor Bortz at Whitehall, Earl Peck at Nazareth, Erik Steiner at Parkland, Robert Falcone at East Stroudsburg South, Rob Kleinle at Stroudsburg, Jeremiah Motley at Allentown Central Catholic, Erik Tracy at Northampton, Robert Williams at Pocono Mountain East, District 11 statistician Duke Helm and all of those who get these numbers to the media to help spotlight the players each week.
And, speaking of the spotlight, it shines brightest this week in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference on Parkland’s Trey Tremba, who in the words of Nazareth coach Tom Falzone, was a “beast” last week in the exciting 31-24 Trojans win over the Blue Eagles.
Tremba had 260 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground and also caught three passes for 53 yards and the game-winning 39-yard TD. He also had a 40-yard kickoff return.
To no one’s surprise, he is now the EPC South’s leading rusher and leading scorer entering another showdown against Allentown Central Catholic Friday night.
Here’s a look at all of the numbers in EPC football:
