Standings, highlights entering Week 9

Only 11 of the 32 District 11 football playoff berths have been claimed with just two weeks left in the regular season.

Outcomes of this weekend’s game could go a long way in determinin­g many of them.

Here are nine Week 9 highlight matchups:

1. Class A top seed (at the moment) Minersvill­e travels Friday night to 2A top seed Schuylkill Haven, which has won seven games in a row.

2. Blue Mountain hosts Bangor in a matchup of Class 4A No. 3 vs. No. 4, though neither team has secured a spot yet.

3. Catasauqua, No. 3 in 2A, visits No. 6 Palisades in a must-win situation for both clubs. The Pirates won eight consecutiv­e meetings before losing in last year’s district semifinal on Christian Fye’s 36-yard field goal as time expired.

4. Unbeaten Palmerton, No. 2 in 3A, hosts Tamaqua, which has moved into the No. 6 spot thanks to four consecutiv­e victories. Top eight advance in 3A and 6A. The Blue Bombers won both meetings last season.

5. Emmaus hosts Freedom in a matchup of 6A No. 4 vs. No. 5. Top four get home quarterfin­al games.

6. Defending Class A champion Northern Lehigh is on the outside looking in with two games left, including Friday against Jim Thorpe, which is looking to make the 3A tournament. The Olympians currently occupy the No. 8 (last) seed.

7. MarianCath­olicvisits­Tri-Valleyin a battle of No. 3 and No. 4 in Class A.

8. Easton (3-5) is clinging to the last 6A spot and hosts No. 1 Parkland (8-0) on Friday.

9. Bethlehem Catholic is trying to hold onto a 4A playoff home game, but visits Nazareth (7-1), which is second in 6A.
