Lehigh County motorcyclist charged with fleeing from police
A 34-year-old Lehigh County man was arrested after fleeing from police on his motorcycle Tuesday, leading officers on a chase through Oley Township, police said.
Gregory Wilson of Breinigsville remained free following arraignment Tuesday before District Judge Brian K. Strand in Reading Central Court on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia, and four summary traffic violations.
According to Central Berks Regional police:
An officer was monitoring a 25-mph zone in the first block of Covered Bridge Road just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when he clocked Wilson driving his motorcycle at 53 mph.
The officer followed Wilson, turning on his lights and siren. Instead of pulling over, Wilson passed the vehicle in front of him and fled at a high rate of speed.
Wilson drove south on Covered Bridge Road, crossing into oncoming traffic to pass multiple vehicles. He continued onto Route 662 southbound, then turned onto Route 562 westbound.
Wilson attempted to pass a vehicle on a bend on Route 562 and was forced to lock up his brakes. He then appeared to be having mechanical difficulties with his motorcycle. He put up his hand to indicate he was stopping but rode off again at a high rate of speed.
Wilson finally pulled over near Church Lane Road in Exeter Township and was taken into custody.
Police searched Wilson and found a small clear bag with a white, rocklike substance in his jacket pocket. Police also found a small device typically used to snort narcotics.
The substance was later tested and was determined to be methamphetamine.
Wilson did not have a valid registration or insurance for his motorcycle and was driving with a suspended license.
