Man allegedly shot into group of people outside a home
An Allentown man is charged with shooting four people Tuesday night in Allentown.
Axel Yadiel Suarez-Vidal, 22, shot into a group of people about 7 p.m. outside a home in the 1800 block of West Turner Street, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan said in a news release.
Three women and one man were injured. They were taken to a nearby hospital by private vehicle and are expected to survive, the DA’s office said.
Suarez-Vidal is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. He turned himself in Wednesday morning, and was arraigned on the charges and sent to Lehigh County Jail without bail.
Investigators believe no one else will be charged in the shooting.
Police wrote in court documents that two women had arranged to fight behind a West Turner Street home at the time. Those two were with about seven other people, including SuarezVidal, during the fight, court documents allege.
Suarez-Vidal and another man in the group got into an argument and Suarez-Vidal began shooting into the crowd, hitting four of them, according to police.
The shooting happened not far from Muhlenberg College. The college’s public safety department said in a notice to students that they were notified of the shooting around 8 p.m. The campus was placed on lockdown while police investigated, and Muhlenberg police officers increased patrols in high-traffic areas around campus.
The DA’s office said the investigation showed the shooting was not connected to the college.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Allentown police at 610-437-7721 or 610-4377753.
