Charles S. “Chot” Smith passed away peacefully on

February 23, 2024 at

St. Luke’s Hospice House. The Husband of Jean L. (Shearer) Smith for over 62 years on November 17th. Born and raised in Easton, PA, son of the late Julius and Claire (Howell) Smith. Chot was a star football player at Easton High School (Class of 1952); where he played offense and defense. He also lettered in track and field. He was recruited by the Naval Academy; then attending Wyoming Seminary. He was accepted to Lafayette College where he played football. He joined the Navy from 1957-1960 and continued his formal education at Moravian College. The majority of his career was as a mechanical engineer at L&M Fabrication and Machine Shop in Bath, PA. A member of Christ Church UCC they remained active members and belonged to many social and activity clubs throughout the years. Chot and Jean met at the YR Club in Easton and enjoyed cultivating lifelong friendships with people from Easton and beyond. Highlights of Chot’s life included his pee wee football team Palmer Panthers for making it to the Rose Bowl in 1960. His adventures and time in the Navy led to being Captain of his motor boat. Chot loved boating with his wife and family at their cottage on the Delaware River. Lazy summers were spent on the river and cooking out with family and friends. A lifelong animal lover, Chot and Jean had many pets over the years, including a duck, cats and three beloved dachshund’s all named Heidi. Chot was a man’s man, liked by all who met him. Great in business and socially, he was never at a loss for a story or to help a friend with any project. He dedicated his life to his wife and daughter and provided and protected them with loyalty and love. Heartfelt gratitude to St. Luke’s Hospice and the City of Bethlehem Police Department and Emergency Services. Their help, advice, support and understanding during a difficult time is immeasurable.

Brennan. Predeceased in death by his loving granddaughter Nicole.
