LORAIN — A boil alert for an area around Jaeger Road is supposed to end this morning. The road was reopened yesterday after a water main break closed it down on Monday.

Water is back on for all residents in that area, said Jim Malick, superintendent of wa- ter distribution. A boil alert was in place for residents living along Jaeger Road from Kolbe to Leavitt roads; Cooper Foster Park Road from Leavitt Road west to North Pointe Parkway and Leavitt Road from Tower Boulevard to Cooper Foster Park Road, Malick said.

“It’s operational and every-

one has water,” Malick said of the main break. Crews worked Monday and yesterday morning to fix the break. The water department also pumped water from a few yards that were flooded when the water main broke.

Water department employees will go door to door handing out notices to let residents know when the boil alert is over.

The water department has received several calls from residents concerned about low pressure but Malick assured everything is OK.

“Other parts of the systems experienced low pressure, but we didn’t go below 20 PSI,” Malick said. Water needs to stay above that mark to be OK for drinking.

The water main broke after a vehicle struck a fire hydrant on the 3500 block of Jaeger Road about 2:30 a.m. on Monday. The driver left the car and fled from the scene on foot. Lorain police identified the driver, but were not able to locate him, according to the traffic report.
