Obama campaign office to open in Elyria this week

ELYRIA — The Obama for America campaign will open a new office this week in Elyria.

Campaign workers will have a grand opening Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the office, 1573 W. River Road North, in the Midway Crossing shopping plaza.

President Barack Obama’s campaign currently has an office at 668 Broadway in Lorain and will open its 100th Ohio office this week in Massillon, said Jessica Kershaw, press secretary for Obama for America in Ohio.

“We’re opening offices all across the state,” she said.

The president has a lot of support around Ohio and voters understand the stark contrast between his economic policies and those of Republican challenger Mitt Romney, Kershaw said.

“People in Lorain County certainly understand this,” she said.

“They can see who has had their back over the last 3 and a half years and who would continue to work to keep more jobs in Lorain County,” while a Romney administration would help move jobs overseas, Kershaw said.

The offices function as a call center and meeting place for volunteers who go out to meet voters in neighborhoods, Kershaw said.

People also can go there to register to vote up to Oct. 9, the state deadline, she said.

Anyone interested in attending the grand opening is asked to R.S.V.P. by calling 590-1486.
