LORAIN — Betty J. (nee Jurina) Taliano, age 89, passed away on the evening of Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at the Indepen - dence Village of Avon Lake.

Betty was born in Cleveland on Aug. 2, 1925, and had been a long-time resident of Lorain; she was a 1943-B graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend classes at Cleveland’s Fenn College.

Mrs. Taliano had been employed as an administra­tive assistant for the Fruehauf Trailer Company in Avon Lake; she was also previously employed by the Reidy-Scanlan Furniture Company.

A parishione­r of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain, she served as a volunteer with the Lorain County Board of Elections and was also a member of N.A.RV.E. (The National Associatio­n of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees).

In her free time, Betty enjoyed travel, casino junkets, and annual trips to Florida. She was also an avid reader who possessed a special fondness for biographie­s. In addition, Mrs. Taliano enjoyed conversing about politics.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Eugene; and by sons Daniel (Gale) of Sheffield Village and Nick (Margie) of Cuyahoga Falls. She also leaves grandchild­ren, Julie (Ted) Hurst and Jaclyn Taliano (Colleen Bozzi); and great-grandchild­ren, Anna and Dean Hurst.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Anna M. (nee Csulik) Jurina; and by sisters, Geraldine Jurina, Shirley Orlandi, Laura Konya, and Carol Goforth.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m., Monday, in the Gluvna- Shimo- Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.

Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue. Reverend Craig Hovanec, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
