LORAIN – Robert H. Long, age 89, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at his home under the care of New Life Hospice.

He was born on September 11, 1925 in Lorain, Ohio to Harold and Else Nora (nee Nitz) Long and was a 1942 graduate of Lorain High School.

Robert enlisted with the Merchant Marines then went on to enlist with the US Navy serving his country during WWII.

Robert made his career as a carpenter working on numerous constructi­on sites throughout Lorain County.

He was also a volunteer at Amherst Hospital.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 30. He loved fishing and was an avid sports fan.

Robert is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ulla; sons, Jack Long, of St. Petersburg, FL. Paul (CeCe) Long, of Deland, FL; daughter, Robyn Long, of Hope Mills, NC; step-father of, Russell (Denise) Owens, of Vermilion, David (Rita) Owens, of Waynesboro, VA, and Jonathon (Susan) Owens, of Medina; and many grandchild­ren and great and great-great grandchild­ren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Else Long; and step-daughter, Mary Kristen Wyvill.

The Long family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.

Private family inurnment will take place a later date at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Twp.
