In their last regular season home game, the Norwalk Truckers routed the Sandusky Blue Streaks, 7-0, on Oct. 7.

It was also senior night for the Truckers, and six of the seven goals were scored by seniors.

“It was great, the seniors had a really fun night in front of their home fans. A lot of their friends were here,” Norwalk coach Paul Lamb said. “They played very well. They passed the ball well, a lot of the seniors scored and that was special.”

Jason Penza scored the first goal for Norwalk — a shot off of Sandusky keeper Treven Johnson’s hands that ricocheted into the net to put the Truckers up, 1-0, in the second minute.

Norwalk’s Devon Miller was the only non-senior to obtain a goal on the evening. The junior scored in the 11th minute on a cross from Caden Foos to put the Truckers up, 2-0.

Keyan Leroux scored in the 14th minute and Foos scored moments before halftime to give Norwalk (13-2-1) a 4-0 advantage after 40 minutes of play.

John Cousino tallied a goal in the 63rd minute on an Angel Garcia assist and Othon Ramirez scored in the 75th minute on Foos’ second assist of the game to put Norwalk up, 6-0.

Garcia added a goal to his stat line after scoring on a penalty kick with 20 seconds left in the game.

Sandusky (1-13-1) had limited opportunities to score, finishing the night with two shots and four shots on goal. The Blue Streaks have one final regular season game against Toledo Waite on Oct. 9 before playing in the postseason next week against No. 1 seed Lexington in the Division II Clyde District on Oct. 13.

“We have to analyze what we did wrong and we have to do our best to correct them in the next five days before the tournament game,” Sandusky coach Ryan Fry said. “I want to see them (his team) compete, that’s the first thing. I haven’t had too many games where we’ve competed for a full 80 minutes. I want to see us focused from the very beginning and I want to see us get more chances on goal.”

Norwalk, the No. 4 seed in the D-II Clyde District, will host Clyde on Oct. 13. Lamb said his team is capable of being successful in the postseason.

“They’ve had a great year and I think they’re going to have a great tournament,” Lamb said. “We have a strong defensive squad, we have a good midfield, and our senior leadership — we have 12 seniors. It’s just solid. It’s giving us a good year. I’m looking forward to the tournament and I know they are, too.” Boys soccer
