Lorain man sentenced to six years prison after heroin operation
A Lorain man has been sentenced to six years behind bars for participating in what authorities said was a family-run drug trafficking operation.
Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge James Miraldi sentenced Luis Acevedo Jr., 29, to six years in prison on one count of possession of drugs, a second-degree felony; and one count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.
He also sentenced Acevedo on one count of possession of drugs, a minor misdemeanor, and ordered him to pay a $150 fine.
In his ruling, Miraldi found Acevedo not guilty of one count of drug trafficking.
Acevedo was indicted in April 2013 on charges of drug trafficking, drug possession and possession of criminal tools, according to court records.
He was accused of running a heroin trafficking operation alongside his cousins Francisco Rivera, 32, and Jose Romero, 33, both Lorain, back in 2012.
Common Pleas Judge John Miraldi previously sentenced Rivera to 6 ½ years in prison Oct. 7 on both higher and lowerlevel trafficking charges.
One of Acevedo’s accomplices, Kevin Thorpe, 22, of Lorain, also was sentenced to three years of probation in January for his participation in the drug operation.
From the drug operation, Lorain police Sgt. Tom Nimon said officers seized 25 grams of heroin, 58 grams of cocaine, $28,665 in cash, three rifles and four handguns.
