Lorain man indicted after police uncover crack cocaine
A Lorain man who allegedly confessed to hiding drugs in his buttocks has been indicted.
Isaiah Castro, 31, was indicted Dec. 17 on single counts of drug trafficking and drug possession, both fourthdegree felonies, according to court documents.
Castro also was charged with single counts of driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Castro’s indictment follows his Oct. 12 arrest where a Lorain police officer got more than he bargained for after conducting a traffic stop.
According to a Lorain police report, Detective Timothy Thompson conducted the traffic stop on Castro while he was driving his minivan near the area of 20th Street and Oberlin Avenue.
After Thompson pulled Castro’s van over, Thompson said the suspect admitted to hiding “something” inside his buttocks.
Upon searching Castro, officers discovered that “something” was actually crack cocaine, the report stated.
Castro was immediately arrested, taken to the Lorain City Jail and charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
He was later released from jail after posting a $2,500 per- sonal bond.
Thompson said he recognized Castro from a 2010 traffic stop he conducted on Melissa Roman where Castro was identified as the passenger.
While in pursuit of Roman’s vehicle, Castro threw out a 4.9-gram plastic bag of marijuana.
Roman was issued a citation at the scene for driving under suspension and impeding the flow of traffic.
For that incident, Castro was arrested and charged with two counts of drug possession and one count of drug paraphernalia.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three years probation in June 2011.
