A 16-year-old girl, who is accused of stabbing a man, won’t be tried in the adult criminal system after a plea agreement was reached.

The girl was facing an attempted murder charge after police say she stabbed a man in the back several times with a knife July 5. The charge was dismissed in Lorain County Juvenile Court on Sept. 22 after the teen admitted to assault, felonious assault, aggravated riot and tampering with evidence, as part of the plea agreement.

A disposition hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 26. The teen was taken to the Lorain County Detention Home. She has been referred to the Investigation and Referral Team of the Lorain County Juvenile Probation Department where she will then be referred to the Children’s Continuum of Care Committee.

Police went to a home in the 1800 block of Middle Avenue many times in the early morning hours after a number of disturbances. A female victim told police, during one of the occasions, that Sherie Cutlip, 36, of Elyria and several other women were outside tossing things at her window and attempted to provoke the victim to come outside and fight.

The victim recognized Cutlip because she previously dated Cutlip’s brother, Elyria police Capt. Christopher Costantino has said.

Costantino said that they had prior issues that went back several months. When the victim walked out of her apartment, she saw a 16-year-old male, who was with Cutlip, slashing her tires, Costantino said.

The victim attempted to confront the male and was punched in the face by Cutlip leading to a melee involving at least seven people, police said.

During the brawl, the female victim’s husband was stabbed multiple times in the back while fighting with the young man who had slashed his wife’s tires, Costantino said.

Police determined the man was stabbed by the 16-year-old male’s twin sister.

The girl’s twin brother, who is accused of slashing the female victim’s tires, was charged with criminal damaging and assault.

Cutlip is charged with felonious assault and assault. She is set for a pretrial Sept. 29.

Other people also were involved in the fight and are facing misdemeanor charges.
