Pair of Lorain County men arrested in Utah
Guns and drugs were among the items located with two men who were arrested in Utah earlier this month.
Money, guns and drugs were among the items located with two Lorain County men who were arrested in Utah earlier this month following a police pursuit that spanned two states, according to Lt. Ed Super.
Robert D. Beane III, 25, of Lorain, was charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, obstructing justice and failure to stop or respond at the command of police, all of which are felonies.
Beane also faces misdemeanor charges of false person information with intent to be another person and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, according to records from Utah’s Seventh District Court.
Christopher William Howse, 25, of Elyria, was charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, obstructing justice and failure to stop or respond at the command of a police officer, all of which are felonies.
Howse also faces a misdemeanor charge of use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Court records reveal the men were arrested Jan. 16 and appeared in court Jan. 17.
Super said he was informed of the incident Jan. 17 by Agent Eric Veenan with the Utah State Bureau of Investigation. Super said the chase began in Colorado and then crossed state lines into Utah.
At some point during the chase, both Beane and Howse allegedly tossed their guns out of the window and eventually were apprehended by Utah police.
Super said Beane also attempted to pass as another Lorain County man, but his identity was verified.
Beane and Howse were caught with over 2 ounces of suspected fentanyl, over 1 ounce of methamphetamines, about $8,000 in cash and two guns, Super said, who added he didn’t have any additional details regarding what type of guns.
Both Beane and Howse are suspected gang members and drug dealers who have extensive criminal histories consisting of violent crimes and drug offenses, Super said.
He said Utah investigators told him that due to their criminal records, the pair could face up to 10 years in prison for the gun related charges alone if they are tried federally.
The drug-related charges could carry a sentence up to five years, Super said.
