A vehicle fire Jan. 24 on Lorain’s east side is being investigated as arson, according to a Lorain police report.

Around 10:15 p.m., Lorain police and firefighters responded to the 2200 block of Cleveland Boulevard and located a bronze 2004 Buick Century on fire in a driveway with flames coming from the hood area. The report said a gas can was located in the grass about 15 feet away from the car.

Lorain firefighters also confirmed the fire started on the exterior of the Century, the report said.

The male complainant said he heard a loud bang before looking out his window, seeing the car on fire across the street and calling 911. The man said he didn’t see anyone around the vehicle, the report said.

The 56-year-old male victim was home at the time and was shocked to learn his car was on fire, the report stated. The victim and his girlfriend named a possible 31-year-old male suspect who also lives in Lorain.

Fire investigators responded to the scene due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the report said.

The incident remains under investigation.
