Police: Lorain man charged following intentional crash

- By Kelsey leyva

A Lorain man is facing abduction, felonious assault and domestic violence charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and rammed into her car with his vehicle March 15, according to a Lorain police report.

David Joshua Young, 27, also was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, driving in violation of a license forfeiture and willful/wanton disregard of safety on public streets.

The report said officers arrested Young after finding him walking on East 36th Street. It also said Young lives on 32nd Court, but Lorain Municipal Court records show he has a Reid Avenue address.

Around 5:35 p.m., officers responded to Palm Avenue and East 33rd for a felonious assault involving a vehicle striking another vehicle.

Young, who was driving a green Honda Civic, fled west on East 32nd Street as police approached the scene, according to the report.

A highspeed pursuit then ensued and involved Young running stop lights, weaving in and out of traffic and exceeding 80 mph, the report said. The pursuit continued west down East 28th Street until it was terminated near Fulton Avenue. According to the report: Officers who spoke with the 37-year-old female victim, learned she and Young argued around 11 a.m. and Young choked her while she was holding her 1-yearold child.

When Young left the woman’s Lorain residence, he took their 3-year-old son with him without the victim’s permission. Around 5:30 p.m., while the woman was going to pick up her 1-year-old from a friend’s house, Young began following the victim and calling her phone.

While stopped at East 33rd and Palm, Young pulled his vehicle next to the victim’s and said he was going to ram her car. When the woman again pleaded for Young to leave her alone, he accelerated into the front driver’s side of her Ford Escape.

Following the police pursuit, Young left the Honda parked in a driveway in the 700 block of East 32nd Street.

Through checking the vehicle’s registration, officers located the residence of the vehicle’s owner and learned two women were attempting to cover for Young, the report said.

As a result, Glorimar Matos, 20, and Leira Rodriguez, 36, both of 32nd Court, each were charged with a single count of obstructing official business.

Officers also learned Young and the victim’s 3-year-old son had been at the 32nd Court home since around 11 a.m. and was returned to his mother.

Lorain Municipal Court records show Young entered a not guilty plea March 16 at his arraignment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 20.
