Chicken Paprikas dinner: Saint Agnes, Altar and Rosary Society, 611 Lake Ave., Elyria, will host the annual chicken Paprikas dinner from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Palm Sunday, April 9. The adults dinner will be $12; children ages 5 through 12 will be $5 and those children younger than age 5 will be serve free. Dinner includes homemade chicken paprika and dumplings, salad, bread and butter, dessert and beverage. Carry-outs will be available; those wanting carry-out should bring their own containers. Paska bread, rolls for sale: Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th St., Lorain, is taking orders for paska (Easter bread) at $7 each, and also nut, poppy and apricot rolls at $14 each. Paska pickup is March 30 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Roll pickup is April 5, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Night at Races: A Night at the Races will be 6 p.m., with post time at 7 p.m., March 25, at the St. Mary Social Hall, 46 E. Main St., Wakeman. Pre-sale tickets are $15 and tickets at the door are $20. (Ticket price includes sandwiches, snacks, beer and pop). Contact the Church Office at 440-839-2023 for presale tickets. There will be a horse auction, silent auction, Jar of Money, side boards, and a chance at $500 for the grand prize. Quarter raffle: A Quarter raffle will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 12 at St. Alphonsus Parish Hall, 1322 Settlement Road, just off Route 61. Bid on prizes for 25 cents. Sandwiches and combos will be available. Admission is $5 and includes a bidding paddle. For advance ticket savings or to reserve tables for six or more, call 419-668-6245. The public is welcome. Proceeds stay in Huron County supporting our senior citizens, Senior Enrichment Services. Tea party: The Isabella Ladies Guild of Fr. Ragan Council, Knights of Columbus will host the annual Tea Party at 6p.m. April 24. The theme for this year is “All Dressed Up” and will feature a fashion show presented by Chico’s of Crocker Park. Dinner menu consists of homemade chicken salad, croissants, fresh fruit, pastries and of course many selections of tea. There will be gift baskets up for raffle and door prizes. Lenten programs: The Catholic Church of Elyria will present several programs during Lent. St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria, will host “Recharging my soul: Letting Jesus Christ Heal me and work through me” at 7 p.m., March 26. St. Agnes Church, 611 Lake Ave., Elyria, will host “Becoming a disciple in my parish community; creative strategies to deepen my faith” at 7 p.m., March 27, and St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria, will host “Letting Christ send me on a great adventure to grow in holiness and build community” at 7 p.m., March 28. The diocesan-wide “Evening of Confession will be 5 to 8 p.m., March 15 at all three churches and the Elyria cluster communal Penance will be 7 p.m. April 2, at Saint Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Swiss steak dinner: First Congregati­onal Church UCC, 36363 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, will host a Swiss Steak dinner with serving times at 4:30 and 6 p.m., March 18, at the church. Church choirs sought: There is still time for church choirs to participat­e in the Elyria Bicentenni­al Gospel Hymn Sing at First United Methodist church in downtown Elyria on April 9. The theme of the Hymn Sing is “Faith and Prosperity.” It is a tribute to the faith of Elyria’s founding pioneers and recognitio­n of the Divine Presence that has guided the city’s growth and prosperity. The Hymn Sing Choir and musicians will be under the direction of Pastor Terrance Bivins, a gifted musician and senior pastor of Worship Cathedral. Choirs that want to participat­e will receive all music (about 10 hymns) several weeks prior to the Hymn Sing in order to practice independen­tly. All hymns have been selected on the basis of familiarit­y and ease of learning. The only rehearsal with the mass choir will be two hours prior to the Hymn sing at 3 p.m. April 9, at First United Methodist Church, with the performanc­e to follow at 5 p.m. Gospel Hymn sing committee members are Rev. Howard Harris; Councilman Mark Jessie, Jeanine Donaldson and Elder Darrell Shumpert. Any choir or individual interested in participat­ing in the event should call Jeanine Donaldson at the Elyria YWCA at 440-322-6308. Sunday school: Faith Baptist Church, 440 N. Lake St. Amherst, will host Sunday school for all ages at 9:30 a.m. followed by the worship service at 11 am, on Sunday.
