Tribe comes up with a clunker

PHOENIX, ARIZ.>> The roof of Chase Field fell in on the Indians on April 8 as they lost to Arizona, 11-2.

Tribe starter Trevor Bauer pitched respectabl­y, giving up four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. His cause was not helped by Bryan Shaw, who turned a 3-1 deficit into a 6-1 deficit in the sixth.

But that was mild compared to the explosion that Shawn Armstrong allowed in the eighth. Armstrong gave up five runs on five hits in one inning.

The Indians got their runs when Carlos Santana scored on Michael Brantley’s single in the fourth and Jose Ramirez’s RB single

in the ninth inning.

Minors roundup

Lonnie Chisenhall went 4-for4 and scored two runs on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus as the Clippers won April 8 at Louisville, 9-8, in 10 innings. Erik Gonzalez drove in the game winning run with a single in the 10th and Bradley Zimmer hit a triple and had two RBI.

Single-A Akron’s shortstop Yu Chang homered in his second straight, but the Rubberduck­s fell to Bowie at home, 4-1. Akron starter Michael Peoples (0-1) went

five innings, yielding two runs on seven hits. Lefty David Speer also made his first appearance for Akron giving up one run in two innings.

Single-A Lake County lost its home opener to Dayton, 7-3. Top prospect Brady Aiken (0-1, 4.50 ERA) pitched four innings for the Captains, giving up two runs on six hits and stricking out five. Jorma Rodriguez had a sacrfice fly and RBI double for Lake County.

Triston McKenzie (1-0, 1.59) pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up one run as host Single-A Lynchburg beat Myrtle Beatch, 6-1. Sicnarf Loopstok hit a two-run triple for the Hillcats.

First baseman Jake Gatewood homered but Single-A Carolina lost at Frederick, 5-1. Kodi Medeiros started for the Mudcats and worked through the fifth with three runs allowed on five hits and took the loss. Medeiros (0-1, 5.40) left with 76 pitches thrown before the sixth.
