Danielle Caulfield described 29-year-old Naomi M. Caulfield as “a heart of gold” as she mourned the loss of her only sister.

“That’s the only way I can describe Naomi,” said her younger sibling of four years.

Shortly before 9 a.m., April 12, Naomi Caulfield, of Elyria, was found deceased on the side of Old Fowl Road on the cusp of the city of Elyria and Elyria Township, according to a media release from the Elyria Police Department.

A woman walking her dog in the area discovered the body and yelled out to her before asking a resident on Monticello Circle to call for help.

The release said the initial investigation by detectives with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and Elyria Police Department revealed Naomi Caulfield had no apparent signs of trauma to her body.

An autopsy was conducted by the Lorain County Coroner’s Office, and the release said cause of death will be announced upon completion of the investigation.

In the meantime, Danielle Caulfield’s family is trying to cope with the loss.

She said her sister was a mother of four: 10-year-old Jack

Austin, six-year-old Ballard Shull Jr., four-yearold Faith Shull and twoyear-old Connor Caulfield.

“She was a great mom,” Danielle Caulfield said of her sister. “She was constantly trying to find different things to do with them.”

Danielle Caulfield said her sister essentially was a stay-at-home mom who was dedicated to her children and family.

Naomi Caulfield also had a lot of friends and enjoyed being social, Danielle Caulfield said.

“She was a goofy person always trying to make people laugh,” Danielle Caulfield said. “She was a happy spirit.”

Danielle Caulfield said she and her sister were close, even if they didn’t always see eye-to-eye.

“We had our differences,” she said. “But no matter what, she would come to me instead of anyone else because she knew that she could trust me.

“She even told me before that she looked up to me as a role model even though I’m her little sister.”

While choking back tears, Danielle Caulfield described how excited her sister was to become an aunt 10 months ago when she gave birth to her daughter.

“(Naomi) loves babies to death and she was so excited to be an aunt finally, and now it’s just like, it’s not even going to happen,” Danielle Caulfield said.

Naomi Caulfield also is survived by her parents, Michele Caulfield and Gary Graham.

When asked what she would like others to know about her sister or the situation, Danielle Caulfield replied, “No matter what the addiction, it doesn’t change a person. No matter what Naomi was going through, she was a great person.”

The probe into the incident remains ongoing and no additional details are being released at this time.

Danielle Caulfield said her sister is being cremated and there will be no service.

Anyone with any additional information regarding the incident is asked to contact either the Elyria Police Department at 440323-3302 or the Sheriff’s Office at 440-329-3742.
