City prosecutors to review altercation

-

An altercation involving a large butcher knife April 12 at a Lorain home could result in the stab wound victim being charged with domestic violence, according to Lorain police report.

Around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 5000 block of West Erie Avenue for a domestic dispute.

The report said the 22-year-old Lorain man who was stabbed flagged down a car in the parking lot and got a ride to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain prior to police arrival.

The man was then flown to MertroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for further treatment, the report said.

The 19-year-old Lorain woman who called for police assistance explained she and the 22-year-old had been arguing about cleaning the apartment for an inspection when the man punched a hole in the bedroom wall, according to the report.

The woman then tried to call police and the man broke her cell phone, the report said.

The argument continued into the kitchen where the woman claimed the man put his hand over her nose and mouth, preventing her from being able to breathe. In a state of panic, the woman then grabbed a large butcher knife from the stove and stabbed the man in the thigh twice.

The Lorain Police Department Detective Bureau processed the scene, and the knife and broken cell phone were collected as evidence. Super said the case was forwarded to the Lorain Prosecutor’s Office and they will determine whether or not a warrant for domestic violence will be issued.
