Man suffers gunshot wound following incident
A 50-year-old Elyria man remains hospitalized at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland in good condition after suffering a gunshot wound during an altercation, police said.
Elyria police Capt. Christopher Costantino said at about 12:40 a.m., April 13, officers were detailed to a residence at Crehore Court after receiving reports of shots fired with a subject down.
The victim initially was transported to MetroHealth in critical condition early April 13.
According to MetroHealth spokesperson Noah Lamprecht, the victim has since been upgraded to good condition.
Greg Kimbrough , 30, of Lorain was arrested and charged with felonious assault and firing into a habitation.
Costantino said the incident remains under investigation and the charges could be upgraded.
Upon arriving on scene, Elyria police contacted several individuals who indicated a black male came into the residence from the rear door and pointed a handgun at four people asking “where is my dope?” Costantino said.
The gunman instructed a male and three women to empty the contents of their pockets onto the table at which point the victim got into a verbal altercation with Kimbrough, Costantino said.
The male victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back and fell to the floor, Costantino said. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center.
After allegedly shooting the victim, Kimbrough fled in a silver colored four door sedan with tinted windows, Costantino said.
“Officers did an excellent job on scene in figuring out who he was,” he said.
Early morning April 13, Elyria detectives along with U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force located the vehicle, clothes and the firearm believed used during the incident before tracking Kimbrough to a Lorain house.
