Police: Two charged with reckless homicide
Elyria woman was found dead off of Old Foul Road
Two men have been charged with reckless homicide in connection to the death of 29-year-old Naomi Caulfield, the Elyria woman who was found deceased April 12 on the side of Old Fowl Road, according to a media release from the Elyria Police Department.
Anthony Barker, 24, of 170 Raleigh Drive in Elyria, and Gregory Daesean Ralston, 26, of 1943 Marshall Ave. in Lorain, each were charged with the third-degree felony following an investigation by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and the Elyria Police Department.
The release said the investigation began shortly after 8:52 a.m., April 12, when a woman walking
ing her dog discovered Caulfield’s body along the treeline between Fowl and Albrecht roads at the city limits of Elyria.
Officers believed it was “fairly apparent” Caulfield’s body was dumped because fresh tire marks were located on the roadway near where the body was located, authorities said.
Through the investigation, officers determined Caulfield was at 170 Raleigh Drive with three male subjects prior to her death, according to the release.
Two of the subjects were identified as Barker and Ralston, and the third male
has been identified but remains at large, the release said.
Ralston provided Caulfield with drugs and after taking them, Caulfield began showing signs of an overdose and went unconscious, according to the release.
Barker and Ralston then loaded Caulfield into the backseat of a 2009 Ford Escape, the release said.
Around 9 p.m., April 11, Barker and Ralston took Caulfield to an isolated area of Old Fowl Road, removed her from the vehicle and placed her along the wood line on the east side of the
road, authorities said.
Barker and Ralston both claim Caulfield was unconscious at the time, but was breathing and had a pulse when left on the side of the road, the release said.
Neither Barker nor Ralston made any attempts to seek medical treatment for Caulfield or report her whereabouts, according to the release.
The Lorain County Coroner’s Office is awaiting test results to determine Caulfield’s exact cause of death.
Elyria Municipal Court records show Barker and Ralston appeared for arraignment hearings April 26 and each entered no plea.
Both suspects had their bond set at $100,000 and each has a preliminary hearing set for April 27.
