Thoughts on single-payer system

-

I’d like to comment on Lisa Kavanaugh’s April 29 letter regarding U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan. It may be that Jim is not listening to Lisa, but I think it is probably more like Lisa is not listening to Jim. I understand Jim when he explains why he is not in favor of a “single-payer (health care) system.” So let me give it a try.

Canada has a single-payer system. That is why some Canadians come to America rather than die waiting for care in Canada. Veterans Affairs has a single-payer system where some veterans die waiting for care.

Medicare is a modified, government-run single-payer system. The wife and I pay $4,205 per year for 80 percent coverage. The other 20 percent supplement costs us another $7,354 per year. Some benefits are denied us because of our age. Supplements can be denied because of pre-existing conditions. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s office will explain this to you as they did to me. Brown is in favor of a single-payer system.

Obamacare was designed to fail. They expected Hillary Clinton to be elected to save it by replacing it with a single-payer system. I think Lisa just does not want to hear any reason why we should not have a single-payer system.

But that is why Donald Trump got elected and why we do not want socialism.

I understand her pain. We are just getting over eight years of pain. Don Race New London
