A list of Fourth of July celebratio­ns

The following are some of the Fourth of July celebratio­ns taking place in The Morning Journal’s coverage area.

• The city of Avon will host a fireworks display following the Lorain County Crushers’ game on July 3 at Sprenger Stadium. The game will begin at 7:05 and fireworks will follow. On July 4, the city will host it’s second annual Fourth of July Bike Parade. Residents are welcome to decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons or tricycles. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Avon Aquatic Facility at 36265 Detroit Road. The short one-mile route will feature a police and fire escort. All participan­ts will receive one compliment­ary weekday admission to the Avon Pool (valid from July 4 through the end of the season).

• The city of Avon Lake will hold its Independen­ce Day celebratio­n on July 2 at Weiss Field at 33401 Webber Road. The festivitie­s began at 7 p.m. with performanc­es by Says She followed by Anne E. DeChant. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display.

• Celebrate Independen­ce Day with Elyria at the Bicentenni­al Edition of the Great American Picnic and Fireworks Show ,July 3, at West Park, 1200 Foster Ave.

The festival, featuring family activities, a juggler, games and balloons, will start at 4 p.m. At 5, residents can enjoy the Founder’s Day documentar­y of “Elyria: Making History Then and Now.”

Attendees can hear music from three different band at 6 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark. The rain date for the event is July 7.

• Fireworks begin after sunset July 1 in Lorain. The color and light show caps a day filled with activities such as an 11 a.m. Lighthouse Tour, a 2 p.m. History Excursion, a 5 p.m. River Nature Tour, an 8-to-11 p.m. fireworks picnic at the Lorain Lighthouse, and a 5:30 p.m. Rockin’ on the River concert with “Parrots of the Caribbean,” a Jimmy Buffet tribute, and “My Drunken Uncle.“For more informatio­n on the Rockin’ on the River concert, visit www.rockinonth­eriver.com/events.html.

• North Ridgeville will hold a family event to celebrate the country’s Independen­ce from 7 to 9:30 p.m. July 3 at South Central Park, 7565 Avon Belden Road. Attendees can expect bounce houses, face painting, food vendors and live music. A fireworks show will follow at dark. The rain date for the event is July 5, but only for the fireworks. Bainbridge Road will be closed between Root Road and Route 83 starting at 1 p.m. July 3, and will reopen the morning of July 4.

• The city of Oberlin will present a fireworks show at dusk July 4 at the Oberlin Recreation Complex, 225 West Hamilton Road. In case of rain, the display will be held July 5. For more informatio­n, call 440-775-7254.
