Library transforms into superhero obstacle course
The Avon Branch of the Lorain Public Library System, 37485 Harvest Ave., welcomed families and children July 10 as the building was transformed into a superhero obstacle course.
Afternoon rain did not stop about 75 youngsters and their families from testing their super skills at the one-hour program while dressed as their favorite superhero.
The children took their turn with an array of activities that tested their super balance along with the tunnel crawl and the laser dodge which allowed participants to weave their way through obstacles set up between aisles of books in addition to taking part in tumble tire races down the main interior hall.
Christine Phelps, a library associate at the Avon Branch, who dressed up as batman, said with the help of a number of teen volunteers, the branch conducts a superhero program each year.
The obstacle course followed on a superhero Olympics, Phelps said.
With the Lorain Public Library System in the middle of its “build a better world” theme for the summer reading program, the branches have used different programs to get youngsters active and moving in addition to being exposed to literature.
Phelps said the Library System will host a number of active programs through the course of the summer such as a dino dig program for students between ages 4-10 from 3-4 p.m., July 18, a teen escape room challenge from 6-8 p.m., July 21, and a number of engineering themed events in the future.
